U.S. embassy delivers $2 million in medical supplies to Tajikistan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, February 3, 2012 – On Friday February 3, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., Sarah Penhune participated in a handover ceremony of more than $2 million in humanitarian aid donated by American company Eli Lilly and delivered by the U.S. State Department and Project HOPE to the people of Tajikistan, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe said.
The ceremony took place in the Republican Center of Endocrinology. The donation, which included 26,800 vials of Insulin, will be distributed to the people of Tajikistan to be free of charge. Project HOPE and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan will distribute the medical supplies to other endocrinology centers throughout Tajikistan.
Since 2001, Project HOPE has provided more than $302 million in medicine and medical supplies to Tajikistan. Since 1992, the American people have provided more than $984 million in programs and humanitarian aid that support Tajikistan’s democratic institutions, health care, education and economic growth.
