Tajikistan RCS sends humanitarian aid to mudflow-hit population in Sughd

KHUJAND, April 22, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The branch of Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) in Sughd province has sent a consignment of humanitarian aid to 10 families (totaling 58 people) in the Istaravshan district that were seriously affected by recent mudflows, Asia-Plus has learned Fakhriddin Karimov, the emergency management coordinator, RCS’s branch in Sughd.
The assistance included beddings, kitchen utensils, water tanks, tents, kerosene stoves, household equipment, electric torches and other relief supplies.
We recall that torrential rain on April 11 caused mudflows that damaged 75 households in the Nijoni jamoat of the Istaravshan district. Two households were destroyed completely. The mudflows also partially damaged five bridges, irrigation canals and roads in the area. No injured was reported.
