Sughd regional radio plans to use FM for broadcasting in the near future
Urgently
KHUJAND, October 29, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Sughd regional radio is going to use frequency modulation (FM) for broadcasting in the near future.
The radio’s transmitter is currently being tested on a frequency of 101.1 FM and preparation work is progressing.
The regional radio editor Tutinisso Mullaboyeva told Asia-Plus Saturday afternoon that the radio now broadcast only one hour per day lately, from 12:15 to 13:15. Ten persons, including seven journalists, now work for the radio.
According to Mullaboyeva, the Sughd regional radio can be picked up by about 90 percent of the province’s population.
Residents of Khujand may also listen to other radio stations such as Khujand-based Tiroz and Tiroz+ and Imrouz as well as Sadoi Dushanbe broadcasting from Dushanbe.
Frequency modulation (FM) is a form of modulation which conveys information over a carrier wave by varying its frequency (contrast this with amplitude modulation, in which the amplitude of the carrier is varied while its frequency remains constant). In analog applications, the instantaneous frequency of the carrier is directly proportional to the instantaneous value of the input signal. This form of modulation is commonly used in the FM broadcast band.
