FMS head offers to send violators of migration legislation to public works

DUSHANBE, February 2, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Konstantin Romodanovsky, the head of Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS), has offered to send violators of the country’s migration legislation to public works.

Romodanovsky told Kommersant on February 2 that it is not necessary to impose a visa regime on some CIS nations for protect against illegal migration.  “It would be more expedient to tighten punishment for violation of the migration legislation and introduce mandatory language test for immigrants,” Romodanovsky noted.

RIA Novosti reports that the FMS director told a news conference in Moscow that he and Mikhail Fedotov, Head of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, have discussed the proposal to send those illegally crossing into Russia to public works.
