English for Academic Purposes at UCA's School of Professional and Continuing Education

DUSHANBE, December 23, 2011, Asia-Plus -- The University of Central Asia's School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) is now offering the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program in Naryn, Khorog and at its Learning Centers in Bishkek and Dushanbe, UCA’s newsletter, issue 108, reports.
The EAP program adds to SPCE's current English program offerings in Conversational English and English for Business.
Developed specially by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, University of Ottawa for SPCE, this comprehensive and intensive program prepares students for admission to university. The program consists of two levels: EAP level 1 and EAP level 2. Designed to facilitate the learning of non-native English speakers, the program aims to equip participants with critical thinking and reading skills, expanding their ability to participate in university-level classroom discussions, comprehend and analyze academic literature, and produce text according to standard academic conventions. Classes are held three or five times weekly, for both levels, and encompass a total of 150 hours of academic reading, speaking/listening and writing skills.
The EAP program is conducted by SPCE instructors who have been trained by the Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, University of Ottawa (Canada).
The EAP is in progress in Bishkek, Dushanbe, Khorog and Naryn. Interested learners can contact SPCE's centers to inquire on next available start dates.

The Presidents of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan, and His Highness the Aga Khan signed the International Treaty and Charter establishing this secular and private University; ratified by the respective parliaments, and registered with the United Nations.
The School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) is designed to serve the immediate needs of the communities where the campuses are being built and fulfils UCA’s approach to reach the broadest spectrum of learners possible.
